Mayflower High School

2016 - 2023

The backstory

I started at Mayflower in Billericay in September 2016 and stayed for seven years. GCSEs came first, ten of them, with Geography and Spanish among my options, alongside Design Technology and the core subjects.

In September 2021 I moved up to the sixth form to study Mathematics, Business, Economics and an extended project qualification. The combination was deliberate. I wanted the maths behind the subjects and a clearer picture of how the wider economy shapes the choices people make.

The Head Boy year

In September 2022 I was appointed Head Boy. The role put me in front of people constantly, speaking at open evenings and carrying student views into conversations with staff.

It also meant being visible and accountable every day, because younger students watch what a Head Boy does far more closely than what he says.

How it moved me forward

The subjects shaped what came next. They pointed me straight at Economics & Finance at university. The extended project became the seed of something real. Its research grew into the first prototype of the Tinsley & Co website, which is now live.

The Head Boy role changed me in a quieter way. I stopped being nervous about addressing a room and learned to carry responsibility that other people depend on.
