What I do
I joined the Billericay branch in November 2021 as a supermarket assistant and worked my way up to supervising the shop floor. A normal shift means balancing customer enquiries against keeping shelves replenished. Neither one waits.
I'm trusted with the money side of the store, processing transactions accurately and coaching new starters until they're confident behind the tills. When trading peaks, I step into whichever role the day needs.
Working up, not just working
The role has grown because the trust has grown. What began as shelf work became responsibility for other people's shifts running smoothly. The regulars I greet by name are a reminder that good service is built one small interaction at a time.
What it shows
I've held this job continuously through sixth form and university, which says more about reliability than any interview answer could. It has also taught me to stay calm while a queue builds and to communicate clearly when the team is stretched.
